  1. Fredrik's Interactive Fiction Starter's Package

  4. This is a package for Amiga-users who want to try some Interactive Fiction
  5. of the 1990:s (exept for Mini-Zork, which is from the 1980:s). Like almost
  6. all of the IF games produced today, all games in this package are freeware
  7. or shareware. Check the files in each game's directory for details.
  8.  
  9. All these games can be played on a variety of platforms other than the Amiga,
  10. by changing the game-file interpreter. If you are interested in doing so, go 
  11. tothe web-sites at the end of this document for further information. The
  12. interpreters included in this package can all be used to play other games
  13. on the same format as well.

  15. Instructions for unpacking:

  18. 0. Unpack the archive into a directory of your choice. A new drawer called 
  19.    FIFStart will be created there.
  20.  
  21. 1. Click on the FIFSTART icon to open the FIFStart drawer and click on
  22.    the respective icon to play any game. To view this file at any time
  23.    click on the Read Me file.

  33. General instructions on how to play interactive fiction games can be found
  34. in the file "Instructions". If you have not played games like these before
  35. click on the "Instructions" file to read it.

  38. About the distribution of the games:
  39. ------------------------------------

  41. Nine Points: Freeware sample game. It is recommended you try this first if
  42.              you have never played Interaction Fiction before. Should you
  43.              get terminally stuck solving it, try typing help. If that
  44.              doesn't do the trick, you can resort to reading the solution.
  45.              WARNING: This is a "winning" transcript from the game and 
  46.              therefore should only be used as a last resort!
  47. John's Fire Witch: Shareware, a lunch or $6 registration.
  48. The Sound of One Hand Clapping: Shareware, $10 registration.
  49. The One That Got Away: Freeware.
  50. Gumshoe: Freeware.
  51. Theatre: Freeware.

  56. When you have played these games for a while and feel that IF is interesting,
  57. but you want to try some other games, here is what to do;

  66.      There is another starter's kit in the directory "starters" there,
  67.      called ifstart.zip/ifstart.sit/ifstart.lha (for DOS/Windows, Macintosh
  68.      and Amiga respectively). That kit has more text files about how to play,
  69.      and solutions for the games included.

  71.      There are also heaps of games in the directory "games". The ones
  72.      in games/infocom can be played with frotz.exe, the ones in games/tads
  73.      can be played with tadsr.exe, both supplied with this package. The ones
  74.      in games/pc are stand-alone games that don't need a separate
  75.      interpreter. There is a textfile in the "games" directory that explains
  76.      how to play all the other types of games stored there.
